Israelis startups are growing in greater numbers than ever before. Over 35 Israeli firms have achieved unicorn status or secured private funding at a valuation of over 1 billion dollars in 2021. Some of the Unicorn Club's newest members are barely a year old. Only a few years ago, 1 billion dollars-plus values were reserved for the most well-established, huge corporations. With new difficulties to tackle and a new normal to conform to, numerous Israeli companies seized the opportunity and made a fortune delivering innovative solutions during the Covid era.

Hundreds of unicorns were born in Israel at the time, which was phenomenal, but then Covid arrived. The stock market began to revive after a brief period of paralysis, and individual investors returned. Israeli firms stood by, ready to harvest the crops. Israeli companies raised more than 25 billion dollars in 2021, which is 2.5 times last year's totals and almost 25 times what it was 15 years ago. Israel has witnessed a huge scale-up in recent years, with an exponential surge in funding and unicorns. Some attribute this to world-class personnel trained in the IDF's top R&D units, as well as the country's unique intellectual property; Israel is a domain specialist in cyber security, AI, computer vision, and adtech, among other sectors.

While Israel's freshly minted unicorns come from a variety of industries, enterprise software, cyber security, finance, and insurtech are all strong domains. Several firms in new business categories have achieved unicorn status in the last year. Semiconductors (Wiliot, Valens, Innoviz, Hailo, and Next Silicon); digital healthcare (K Health, Immunai); and the industrial sector are among these segments (Augury and Fabric). Despite its thriving startup scene, Israeli businesses have had to contend with a geographic glass ceiling, which has kept them out of the world's most important markets.
